Child Care The first option involves going through DSHS. You will need to speak with your DSHS Case Manager about childcare and work with him/her to complete the required forms. You will likely need a letter from your Program Director confirming your enrollment as an AmeriCorps member; this letter can be provided quickly, just ask! Members who go through DSHS find this option to be less time consuming, more user-friendly, and more cost-effective than other options. The second option involves going through AmeriCorps CARE. Read the Introduction to AmeriCorps CARE Childcare for more information about this option. Should you select this option, you will need to also dowload and print the following documents:
Parent Manual Please discuss your options with your AmeriCorps Program Director. Current and alumni members with experience in using DSHS and AmeriCorps CARE childcare are available to help you make the best childcare decision for you. |

Segal AmeriCorps Education Award Upon completion of your term of service you will receive Segal AmeriCorps Education Award from the National Service Trust in the amount of $4,725. An online system will allow you to request your Segal AmeriCorps Education Award payments. This system will also allow you to view the history and status of your requests. You are responsible for completing your loan deferment and interest accrual forms. You will have access to the online system once enrolled as an AmeriCorps member. Visit the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award website for additional information. |
Student Loan Forbearance You are eligible to have the repayment of certain qualified student loans postponed while earning an education award. During this period you do not have to make payments on qualified loans, although interest continues to accumulate. Upon successful completion of a term of service the National Service Trust will pay, on behalf of the borrower, all or a portion of the interest that accrued on a qualified student loan during your term of service. An online system will allow you to request your forbearance on student loans and, later, your interest accrual payments. This system will also allow you to view the history and status of your requests. You are responsible for completing your loan deferment and interest accrual forms. You will have access to the online system once enrolled as an AmeriCorps member. |
