I learned more about the real world during my one year of AmeriCorps than I did during 4 years of college. I couldn't not have found a better way to spend my first year out of college. I learned so many new skills because of AmeriCorps. But the greatest benefit to me goes well beyond my mastery of specific skill sets. Most importantly, I can now say that I be given new challenges and rise to meet them. Who could ask for more than that (on a professional development level)? I also like the fact that the skills I mastered are applicable to so many other jobs, and important to the community. My AmeriCorps member added a whole new dimension to our site.
